The iPhone Duo’s short, passport-like body creates an unusual fit problem for magnetic power banks designed around conventional iPhones. Its large camera housing also reduces the amount of usable space on the back of the phone.
Better Mobile Xperience, or BMX, has introduced the SolidSafe Duo, a 5,000mAh magnetic power bank designed specifically for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. It measures 77 x 88 x 11mm and is sized to stay within the edges of the iPhone Duo while attached.
The rotating ring doubles as a stand
One of the more useful additions is a 360-degree rotating ring stand built into the power bank. It can support the iPhone Duo in portrait, landscape, or partially folded positions while the battery remains attached.
Wireless charging reaches up to 15W. An attached USB-C lanyard cable provides up to 20W wired charging and can also recharge the power bank at up to 15W. A full-color TFT display shows the remaining battery capacity and current charging wattage.
It uses a custom semi-solid-state cell
MX has used a custom 5,000mAh semi-solid-state battery to achieve the smaller dimensions. The company says the cell contains less liquid electrolyte than conventional lithium-ion batteries. Its casing is made from CNC-machined aluminum, which also assists with heat dissipation during charging.
The SolidSafe Duo is priced at $79.99 in the U.S. and £79.99 in the U.K. It is available through BMX, while Amazon availability in both markets is planned for October.
