We already knew about Justin Wong and IFC Yipes’ cameo in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, but it looks like they got to put their commentary skills to work for the part, too.
Director Kitao Sakurai made sure the fighting game community felt represented in his Street Fighter film, inviting Justin Wong, IFC Yipes, and Maximilian Dood to play criminals in an apparent Shadaloo prison while Blanka (Jason Momoa) and Ryu (Andrew Koji) duke it out for M. Bison’s viewing pleasure.
These three community pillars were shown in a short teaser for the movie back in July. Come October 1, Wong shared some behind-the-scenes footage of his time on set, which included a closer look at the scene he shared with Yipes.
Previously, we only saw the two fighting game pros-turned-commentators going bananas for Blanka and Ryu’s brawl; Wong’s footage shows himself and Yipes literally commentating the match, betting on commissary rations like ramen noodles and toilet paper.
It’s fantastic stuff, and it isn’t the only homage to the competitive scene that’s included in the movie. Working with the makeup artists, Wong also gave his character a tattoo of the number 37 — and you can probably guess why he chose that particular ink. (He joked that his character had gotten sent to prison for stabbing someone who kept parrying him, saying, ‘You can’t parry a knife.’)
Speaking of Moment 37, Wong even got recognized by Noah Centineo (Ken), who asked which of the group was responsible for parrying Ken in “that sick-ass fight.” (Wong sheepishly admitted that he was the one who got parried, and later taught Centineo some moves in the game.)
All of the guest influencers got a tour of a few of the film’s sets, which included a look at some of the movie’s props. One of those props appeared to be Mike Haggar’s pipe, which would be an insane reference to include but not totally unexpected, given that Final Fight and Street Fighter take place in the same universe.
Street Fighter hurricane kicks its way into theaters on October 16, 2026. In the meantime, you can check out our interview with David Dastmalchian (M. Bison), who told us all about how he studied real-life dictators to bring Shadaloo’s leader to life.
