Wishlister is a weekly newsletter bringing you a curated list of upcoming Steam games worth adding to your wishlist, sent on Tuesdays and published on the site on Fridays. You can subscribe here.

What is it that motivates a player to add a game to their Steam wishlist? We’ve been asking that question ever since launching Wishlister, our weekly newsletter of upcoming Steam games. Sometimes, it’s a great elevator pitch that gets us curious about a game. Other times, it’s the pedigree of the developer behind it. And then there are times when it’s even simpler than that: Sometimes we’re just won over by cool art.

This week’s wishlist picks fall into that last category. All of them feature eye-catching art styles that have landed them on our radar, whether they’re stylish 2D platformers or cozy games that look like playable anime. If any of them grab your attention, make sure to toss them on your Steam wishlist, and subscribe to Wishlister for more weekly PC picks.

Vivarium

Vivarium looks so gorgeous that it’s hard to even believe it’s a real game. The small-town cozy game features hand-drawn art that makes it look exactly like an anime. It’s a similar trick to the one Orbitals pulled earlier this year, but in an even prettier package that evokes the naturalistic work of Hayao Miyazaki.

Rebounder

There were plenty of promising games showcased at this year’s Tribeca Fest, but Rebounder is especially worth keeping an eye on. The 2D platformer looks exactly like a comic book, right down to its inky colors. Beyond that impressive sense of style, it’s looking like a tense precision-based platformer built for Celeste fans.

The Eternal Life of Goldman

Hand-drawn Metroidvania The Eternal Life of Goldman is the kind of game that will take your breath away the first time you see it. Its first trailers promise a gorgeously animated adventure about an old man’s quest to take down a deity. Developer Weappy Studio promises a subversive side-scroller that’s both challenging and approachable.

Cybrlich and the Death Cult of Labor

Cybrlich and the Death Cult of Labor caught our attention at this year’s Game Developers Conference, and not just for its title. This Doom-like first-person shooter features a wild art style that makes it look like an Adult Swim cartoon come to life. It’s a blast based on what we’ve demoed, too, full of blood, skeletons, and oversized blunts.

Reason and Rhyme

If Big Walk has you hungry for more great co-op puzzle games, keep an eye on Reason and Rhyme. Launching on Oct. 15, the two-player game has you solving puzzles together as a pair of angry birds. It also features a very distinct art style inspired by the Nintendo 3DS’ Flipnote Studios app, and it looks terrific in motion.

Lelu

With Black-and-white games like Toem 2 currently in fashion, you’ll want to keep your eyes on Lelu next. The indie game about a clockwork toy on a quest for freedom sports a charming monochromatic look that calls back to the Game Boy era while still looking entirely distinct. It’s looking like a bite-sized delight for fans of top-down adventure games.
