Save up to $130: Prime Day doesn’t officially start until Oct. 6, but you don’t have to wait for it to save on TCL’s gear. You can get up to $130 off its Nxtpaper tablets and phones right now at Amazon, and a couple of these are the lowest prices we’ve seen. On top of that, you’ll get a free stylus and flip case with every Nxtpaper tablet, so that’s additional value you’re getting out of the deal, especially if you’re not looking to spend money on big-ticket purchases like TVs and laptops.

If you haven’t heard about Nxtpaper before, it’s TCL’s matte display tech. It isn’t E Ink like you find in Kindle and other e-readers. Rather, TCL adds an anti-glare layer over a regular LCD screen so you get something that looks and feels more like paper. You can switch between a standard tablet mode and paper-like color and black-and-white reading modes, so you basically get an e-reader and a regular tablet in one device.
My favorite deal of the bunch is the Nxtpaper 11 Plus for $240, down 35% from its usual $370. You could have gotten it for $220 back in August, so this isn’t its lowest price, but you’re still pretty close. You get an 11.5-inch, 120Hz display, a pressure-sensitive stylus and an 8,000-mAh battery. You won’t get the fastest tablet out there, and you’ll find the 8-megapixel cameras rather basic, but you probably aren’t buying this one for photos.
If you want a bigger screen without spending much more, you can get the Tab A1 Plus Nxtpaper for $280, down 30% from $400. That’s its lowest price ever, and you’re even paying less than you would have during TCL’s back-to-school sale, when it dropped to $300. You get a 12.2-inch, 2.4K display with a 120Hz refresh rate, so the overall experience should be pretty smooth. I think this is the best pick for you if you want one tablet for watching shows at night and reading during the day.
If you want the biggest screen TCL makes, you can get the Nxtpaper 14 for $350, down from $470. You might remember it dropping to $300 back in December, so this isn’t its lowest price, but I’d still call $350 a solid deal for a 14.3-inch tablet. TCL says it’s great for reading sheet music, and you can also use it as a second monitor for your PC in extend mode, which is what makes me want one the most.
If you’d rather have the paper-like screen in a smaller form factor, you can get the TCL 60 XE Nxtpaper 5G with 256GB of storage for $200, down 30% from $285. That’s the lowest price it’s ever been. The phone impressed our reviewer, Tyler Graham, and, based on his testing, you should get through a full day on one charge even with frequent use. TCL also has its flagship Nxtpaper 70 Pro on sale, starting at $280 for the 128GB model (down from $330).
TCL has a couple of other solid deals, too. If you’re looking for something closer to a reMarkable, you can get the Note A1 Nxtpaper e-note for $500, which is $100 off. And if you’re shopping for gifts, you can get TCL’s CrystalClip Swarovski Edition earbuds for $130, down from $150. None of these deals needs a Prime Membership, so you’re good to shop these without spending anything extra.

Alternatives to consider
If you mostly read and handwrite notes, you might prefer a true E Ink tablet like the Boox Go 10.3 Gen II, which you can get for $420, although I expect it to be discounted when Prime Day actually kicks off. You won’t get a color display, but you’ll get an excellent E Ink screen and much longer battery life. If you care more about speed, you should look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE for $385. It comes with an S Pen, and you’ll be able to find way more accessories for it than for TCL’s tablets.
Why this deal matters
You’d usually have to pay a lot more for a paper-like tablet or an E Ink note-taker like the Kindle Scribe than for a regular Android tablet. TCL’s Nxtpaper lineup bridges that gap by giving you that paper-like feel at a lower price, and you can still use it as a normal tablet when you want to stream or browse. You also get the stylus and case in the box, which saves you some cash. You only have through Oct. 4 to get these prices, so you’ll want to grab one soon if it’s been on your list.
