Artemis Fowl is coming back to TV screens in the form of an animated show on Disney Channel and Disney+.
Author Eoin Colfer announced that Disney had greenlit another series project based on his family fantasy novels at the 25 Years of Artemis Fowl panel at New York Comic Con 2026. He’ll remain involved in the animated show as an executive producer, too, with Disney promising that he’ll bring “his creative vision to dig deeper into the characters and lore of the beloved book series that is celebrating its 25th anniversary of the first book this year.”
Joining Colfer in the executive producing category is Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’s Ben Juwono, as well as DuckTales’ Colleen Evanson. In a statement, the Artemis Fowl author said he is “proud and delighted to be part of the formidable team that is putting the Artemis Fowl animation on screen.”
“Everyone is so talented and so positive that I feel certain the fairy world is in excellent hands,” he added.
The Artemis Fowl animated series has no release date, but when it does eventually arrive, it won’t be the first swing at the property to land on Disney+. In 2020, Disney launched a live-action movie with the same name, though it largely failed to leave a good impression on fans or critics. As recorded by review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the straight-to-streaming film only whipped up a “rotten” 8% from critics and 19% from audiences.
The Artemis Fowl movie starred Ferdia Shaw as its title character and also featured appearances from Lara McDonnell, Josh Gadd, and Michael Rouse. IGN called it “an empty science fantasy tale with forgettable characters and an uninspired story” in our 4/10 review. In other words, a crack at a film didn’t quite pan out, but where the 2020 project failed, the new animated show hopes to succeed.
“The action-adventure fantasy series Artemis Fowl follows 13-year-old genius Artemis Fowl as he uncovers an underground world of armed and dangerous — and surprisingly high-tech — fairies as he launches a plan to capture one and steal its magic to heal his dying mom and save his family,” a description said.
The original Artemis Fowl book was published in 2001, with the rest of Colfen’s stories in the universe boasting more than 35 million copies sold across the globe. Elsewhere at NYCC 2026, we got another solid look at both Godzilla Minus Zero and Blade Runner 2099. More Naruto was confirmed to be on the way, too.
