The Umbra Witch was last seen in 2023’s Bayonetta Origins
We may not have seen the last of Bayonetta. PlatinumGames’ boss Atsushi Inaba has teased that while he can’t announce anything at the moment, the studio is very eager to keep her around. That’s potentially good news for fans, as Bayonetta last starred in 2023’s prequel, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. Now we all just have to cross our fingers for Bayonetta 4.
Talking to Famitsu (as translated by VGC), Inaba said that PlatnimumGames has “a strong desire to further develop the character of Bayonetta and expand her world. Please look forward to seeing what form that takes in the future.” Shift Up CEO Hyung-tae Kim, who was part of the interview to promote the upcoming Stellar Blade and Bayonetta crossover, seemed as excited as fans, saying PlatinumGames needs to continue the series through Bayonetta 10 and that he’ll get the info off the record, “so everyone please go home quickly.”
PlatinumGames’ next title is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, an adaptation of the critically acclaimed comic. The project was re-revealed in June 2026 with PlatinumGames taking over development from Black Forest. It currently has no release window.
What’s going on with Bayonetta right now?
The prospect of Bayonetta returning is something of a double-edged sword. The character is incredibly beloved by fans, but the last mainline entry in the series damaged a lot of goodwill because of some questionable narrative choices. The series attempted to continue beyond the traditional format with Bayonetta Origins, which turned out to be an inspired prequel, but there has been no real movement on another game since.
Back in 2022, series creator Hideki Kamiya revealed a fourth mainline game was in development, but he left the studio just about a year later. The studio has also gone through major restructuring that saw even more big names depart alongside Kamiya. The worst-case scenario with the Bayonetta world expanding is that it could be relegated to crossovers like the upcoming Stellar Blade appearance or the character’s addition to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
