BMW has officially revealed the iX4, and while the swooping coupe-SUV shape will probably get most of the attention, the numbers under the hood are what’s really impressive. The BMW iX4 50 xDrive is rated for a preliminary maximum of 428 miles of EPA range, powered by a 112.2kWh usable battery and dual electric motors producing 463 horsepower.

The company claims it can sprint from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds. Just like the BMW iX5, the iX4 is a redesign of the brand’s X4.

Ten minutes of top-up gets you 184 miles

BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive architecture supports 400kW DC fast charging, allowing the iX4 50 xDrive to add up to 184 miles of range in 10 minutes at a sufficiently powerful charger. A 10-80% charge takes 21 minutes. Similar to the iX3 and i3 before it, the iX4 uses an 800V electrical architecture, cylindrical battery cells, and a cell-to-pack design.

BMW adds that the new cells deliver 20% greater volumetric energy density than its previous-generation prismatic cells. The iX4 can also send power the other way. BMW confirms bidirectional charging with optional Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home hardware, allowing the battery to power external devices or potentially support a home during an outage.

And then there’s the M60

The regular iX4 50 xDrive is only the opening act. BMW is planning to follow it up with the iX4 M60 xDrive, producing 603 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque from two motors, which can hit 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds for the US model.

Additionally, the iX4 gets BMW’s Panoramic iDrive setup, a 17.9-inch central display, an available 3D head-up display, and an intelligent voice assistant enhanced with Amazon Alexa+. Highway Assistant can provide attentive hands-free driving at speeds of up to 85 mph. The BMW iX4 50 xDrive starts at $66,200 before destination and handling and launches in March 2027, with the M60 arriving later.
