Meet the New HP OmniBook 5: An OLED Laptop Built for Long Days of Work, Class and Streaming

Quick Answer: The HP OmniBook 5 is HP’s new 14-inch thin and light Windows laptop, about 0.46 inches thick and 2.56 pounds, with an Intel Core 5 Series 3 processor, an OLED touch display and native HDMI plus two full-function USB-C ports. It’s built for students and anyone who works, studies and streams on one laptop, and it’s available at Best Buy.

A school laptop needs to be light enough to travel between classes, handle papers and presentations and give you a way to unwind with Netflix once you’re done for the day. The new HP OmniBook 5 brings each of these elements together with a thin design and an OLED touchscreen. You can shop the new HP OmniBook 5 laptops at Best Buy.

What’s new in the 2026 HP OmniBook 5?

The new HP OmniBook 5 combines an Intel Core 5 Series 3 processor, a thin forged-aluminum design and a 14-inch 2K OLED touchscreen. It also has built-in HDMI and two USB-C ports, and both configurations at Best Buy include 8GB of memory and Windows 11 Home.

The OmniBook 5 may be a good option for students using their laptop to write papers, join video calls and stream movies after class. At just 0.46 inches thick, it’s easy to slip into a backpack and carry between school and home. The built-in HDMI port lets you connect directly to an HDMI-equipped classroom projector.

The Starlit Blue model includes a 256GB SSD, while the Smoke Silver version doubles that storage to 512GB. Here’s how both models compare:

How good is the HP OmniBook 5’s OLED screen for photos, video and streaming?

The HP OmniBook 5’s OLED screen is well suited for everyday photo viewing and streaming, with rich colors, deep blacks and a sharp 14-inch touchscreen. Here’s how its features can impact your daily use:

• OLED technology: OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode, which means every pixel produces its own light. Pixels can turn off completely to display true black, creating a stronger contrast that helps details stand out in photos and dimly lit movie scenes.
• 2K resolution: The screen has a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, providing clearer details for photos, videos and text.
• Touch controls: Touch support lets you tap and swipe directly on the screen to scroll through pages or browse photos.
• HP Eye Ease: This feature reduces blue light while preserving color accuracy.

Can the HP OmniBook 5 last through a long day of class and work?

The HP OmniBook 5 is designed for extended use away from an outlet, though the battery life depends on how you use it. An 8 AM lecture and late-night streaming put different demands on the battery, and the apps you use affect how long a charge lasts.

The 65W USB-C GaN charger comes in the box with the OmniBook 5. GaN stands for gallium nitride, a material that helps make chargers smaller while still delivering the power a laptop needs.

The adapter’s foldable prongs and removable cable also make it easier to pack. If you have a break between classes or before work, you can recharge before the next part of your day begins.

Is the HP OmniBook 5 a good laptop for college?

The OmniBook 5 can be a good option for college students who need a lightweight Windows laptop for daily coursework and presentations. The Best Buy models include an Intel Core 5 Series 3 processor with 8GB of memory and Windows 11 Home.

Students choosing a laptop may also benefit from these built-in connections:

• HDMI: Connects directly to a compatible classroom projector for a presentation or a monitor for studying at home.
• Two full-function USB-C ports: Both support power delivery and DisplayPort, so they can charge the laptop, transfer data and send video to a compatible display.
• Headphone/microphone jack: Plug in a wired headset for online classes or group projects.
