I’ve already seen how far Red Magic lets you push a smartphone. When I reviewed the Red Magic 11S Pro, I threw benchmarks, emulation, extended gaming sessions, and eventually the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima at it. With some tweaking, I even saw the game climb beyond 40fps and occasionally touch 60fps in Diablo mode.

The experiment wasn’t always stable, but watching a phone run AAA titles is just insane. Now, we finally have an official look at what the brand is building next, and I’m excited to say the least. Red Magic has revealed the full exterior of the upcoming RedMagic 12 Pro+ ahead of its October 15 launch in China. The phone will come in Transparent Dark Night, Transparent Silver Wing, and Transparent Ice Blue, with the company’s visible RGB liquid-cooling hardware once again proudly showing through the rear panel.

Red Magic made its transparent gaming phone cleaner

The biggest visual change might be around the cameras. Red Magic is keeping the completely flat rear design that I loved, so the two rear cameras sit flush with the back panel rather than creating a protruding camera island like with most Chinese devices. The front stays uninterrupted too, thanks to another under-display selfie camera instead of a hole-punch.

The brand had already confirmed that the new model will be lighter, thinner, narrower, and more rounded than its predecessor. That’s particularly welcome after I found the 11S Pro dense and tiring during one-handed everyday use. But despite these updates, it still looks unabashedly like a gaming smartphone. The transparent panels, RGB cooling system, and full-screen display aren’t exactly trying to blend into an iPhone lineup.

I can’t wait to test it out

Red Magic has confirmed that the 12 Pro+ runs Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. This alone makes it one of the fastest Android smartphones out there. Adding in Red Magic’s usual habit of combining flagship silicon with active cooling and aggressive performance modes, we can expect top-tier performance.

A recent GeekBench 5 result for a Nubia NX819J prototype recorded 3,862 single-core and 11,427 multi-core, although pre-release benchmark results shouldn’t be treated as representative of final retail performance. For context, my 11S Pro managed 3,596 and 10,814, respectively, in Geekbench 6 with Diablo mode enabled. So we can expect the final number to be even higher.
