The red and blue settings were the standouts. After a few weeks of consistent use, my skin texture looked more even, my tone more settled, and the breakouts that usually crop up along my chin and calmed down.
I looked like a slightly better, well rested version of myself, and for a device I was fully on the fence about, that’s a real result.

Living with it

Finding your preferred light is a single button press, and the mask itself is comfortable enough to wear while you get on with something else. The friction is all front-loaded. Get through the setup and it mostly gets out of your way.
Then there’s the serum. FOREO makes its own peptide serum designed to work alongside the mask, and the two are built to complement each other. What I appreciated is how upfront the brand is that it’s optional.
Its own guidance says you’re welcome to use whatever serum you already love, as long as you avoid ingredients that don’t sit well with LED light. That kind of honesty is more than a lot of beauty tech offers, which I appreciated.
One small wish
But the thing that gave me serious pause is the subscription. Yes, a subscription. A few of the treatments and features live inside an app that asks for a recurring fee, which means the $800 sticker price isn’t always the whole story.
It’s a small thing, and a familiar one by now. Cars ask a monthly fee to warm their own seats. Printers meter their ink. Software arrives by the month rather than in a box. None of it is unique to skincare, and paper spread none of it is unreasonable.
But I do miss the older bargain, the one where you paid once and the thing was wholly, uncomplicatedly yours.
Let’s also be clear about what this is and isn’t. It’s a good at-home skincare device that, used faithfully, makes a visible difference. It is not a replacement for a facialist, no matter how the branding flirts with the idea.
At-home LED runs at a fraction of the intensity you’d get in a clinic, and even the brand’s own people concede the trade-off is fewer bulbs and lower output in exchange for convenience. Buy it understanding that, and you won’t be disappointed.
This LED face mask is a difference-maker, in the end. The mask does what it promises, comfortably and consistently, and it has earned its spot in my routine.
My one small wish is for a version of the future where a good product is simply a good product, no strings attached. Until then, the mask works. That much I can say without hesitation.
