It is not the lack of smoking guns here but the sheer number, and the type of people holding them, given the company the woman born Norma Jeane Mortenson was keeping in the weeks and months leading up to her death.
Those concerned/involved include the Kennedy brothers and mob boss Sam Giancana and, it is suggested, the relationship between the White House and the Chicago branch of the mafia was the secret that needed to be kept quiet.
Rumored to be a lover of all three men and a confidante of several other mob and political figures, it seems likely that the world’s most glamorous woman knew more than was good for her. Did it lead to her untimely death that may not be from the barbiturate overdose originally thought?

‘Marilyn and the Mob’ – Episode guide
Part 1: Marilyn Monroe was Hollywood brightest star in the 1950s. But beneath Tinseltown’s glitz was an industry shaped by the mob. Did Marilyn pay dearly in a brutal game of power and betrayal?
Part 2: Part two picks up in the summer of 1962 at Frank Sinatra’s Cal-Neva Lodge in Nevada, where Marilyn spent time in proximity to Sinatra and Giancana days before her death. Marilyn’s hairdresser later claimed she was there with Giancana the night before she died. Monroe was found dead on August 5th; the official verdict was probable suicide from barbiturate overdose. It’s never quite settled, and the decades of conspiracy theories have become their own industry.
What was the last film starring Marilyn Monroe before she died?
Her last completed film was “The Misfits”, released in 1961, directed by John Huston and co-starring Clark Gable, Montgomery Clift and Eli Wallach.
She was working on “Something’s Got to Give” but it was unfinished when she died on August 4, 1962.

Lots, including other drama series like “Falling“, “A Woman of Substance“, “The Copenhagen Test“, “Dirty Business“, and “Get Millie Black“.
