There’s been a waterfall of leaks surrounding the iPhone Fold (or, as some are calling it, the iPhone Ultra) for months. Now those rumors have culminated in a high-fidelity mockup of Apple’s folding iPhone appearing on YouTube channel Unbox Therapy.
During the video, host Lewis Hilsenteger reveals the second such mockup he’s received of the device that could go toe-to-toe with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the best foldable phone you can buy if it launches this September.
But unlike Samsung’s flagship foldable, this mockup is true to the passport-style aspect ratio Apple is rumored to be pursuing. The iPhone Ultra/Fold is therefore noticeably shorter and wider than a typical Z Fold. However, Apple’s work with the 5.7mm thin iPhone Air looks to be paying off, with Unbox Therapy’s mockup measuring just 4.6mm thin. When folded, that becomes 9.18mm, which is just a hair thicker than the 8.82mm thickness of the iPhone 17 Pro.
That said, not everything in the mockup seems like it would translate to a real-life device. There’s a punch-hole camera in the corner of the front display that Hilsenteger says is “un-Apple-like” and then a second punch-hole in the corner of the unfolded screen.
Speaking of unfolded, it really does resemble an iPad mini when it’s in this state, as those two 5.3-inch screens next to each other give the same aspect ratio as Apple’s smallest tablet. In fact, Hilsenteger points out it’s heavily reminiscent of Microsoft’s Surface Duo.
Of course, we don’t know how much of this mockup could prove to be real and how much is guesswork. There are a lot of questions I have left about the iPhone Fold, like whether it will sport a dual-camera system rather than the Pro Max’s triple-lens array. It could mean a return to side-mounted Touch ID, likely integrated into the power button for easier access while folded, rather than Face ID.
Take a look at the video for yourself, and let me know in the comments section below what you think.
