Subscription services pile up quickly, and with rising prices, it’s easy for your monthly subscription costs to reach untenable levels. Most of us only pay for subscriptions when we absolutely have to. Many apps and services are moving entirely to subscription models, leaving users who’d rather pay a flat fee for a lifetime license out of luck. This is why I resisted subscribing to Google One plans for years — I really didn’t need another subscription added to my monthly bills. That changed late last year when Google made an offer I couldn’t refuse, and the deal has only gotten better since.

Google One used to be a subscription centered around cloud storage. When you run out of space in Gmail, Google Photos, or Google Drive, you see a warning that your Google account storage is full. At this point, maybe you’d give in and pay for Google One to get an extra 100GB or 1TB of cloud storage beyond the free 15GB. I never did. The thing that finally convinced me wasn’t cloud storage or AI features, it was the bundling of key services like Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium, and YouTube Premium Lite.

Now, it’s the best $20 I spend each month, and it’s the only subscription service I don’t hate paying for.

The best parts of Google AI Pro have nothing to do with AI

The classic benefits of Google One hooked me early, like cloud storage

Google AI Pro is arguably a bad name for the Google One plan most people should subscribe to. I, like many others, consider paying for AI silly. I’ll happily use whatever free tools are available, and I’m sure I benefit from the expanded Gemini rate limits and features I get out of my Google AI Pro plan. It’s just not the reason I subscribe, because Google AI Pro is much more than an AI subscription. For $20 per month, AI Pro is your ticket to full access to the Google ecosystem.

The first Google AI Pro feature that got me curious was the 2TB of cloud storage. The idea of not having to stress about deleting emails, photos, or documents from my Google account every time the free storage allocation started to fill sounded enticing. Getting to share that storage with five other people would be even better. Other perks, like 10% cash back at the Google Store, and exclusive Google Workspace features in Meet and Calendar, rounded out the deal. This still wasn’t enough to convince me to pay $20 per month for an AI Pro subscription.

Over the past half year, Google aggressively added features to AI Pro without upping the cost, and that’s what sold me. Take cloud storage, for instance. That 2TB of cloud storage that caught my eye in the beginning is how much AI Pro offered when I subscribed. Now, subscribers get 5TB of space at no additional cost. It’s more than double the storage subscribers got before, and it’s a microcosm of how much better a value Google AI Pro has become.

Plus, you get access to Health and Home Premium

Finally, there’s a single Google subscription that includes every key service

The key Google AI Pro feature that officially won me over is the bundling of other Google subscriptions at no extra cost. I’ve been a Google Nest user for years, but never ponied up for the Nest Aware subscription. I settled for a mere three hours of free event history because, as I’ve said before, I hate subscriptions. Google One wasn’t really the “One” subscription for the ecosystems, since extras like Nest Aware, Fitbit Premium, and YouTube Premium were all sold separately. That started to change when Google rebranded Nest Aware to Google Home Premium — and bundled it with Google AI Pro.

Suddenly, I could subscribe to Google AI Pro for the same price as buying Google One Premium and Nest Aware access separately, and get more benefits. That granted me access to up to 30 days of video event history for the first time, so I could keep tabs on my doorbell and home security cameras better. Plus, it infused advanced Gemini for Home features into my existing Nest hardware, revitalizing my smart home.

In case I needed even more value out of my Google AI Pro subscription, Google gave the same treatment to Fitbit Premium. It’s now rebranded to Google Health Premium, and once again, this service is bundled with AI Pro at no additional cost. For Google Pixel Watch or Fitbit users, this service provides access to advanced AI-powered fitness and health insights, such as the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach.

I’m buying the screenless Fitbit Air as a Whoop alternative, which doesn’t require a subscription. Thanks to Google AI Pro, though, I’ll get the Health Premium exclusives for my Fitbit Air without paying an extra dime.

I would’ve never paid for YouTube Premium without this

All these subscriptions that would’ve never made sense individually now fit into a single Google AI Pro plan. Following an eventful Google I/O 2026 event, AI Pro subscribers got what could be their best benefit yet — YouTube Premium Lite. Typically an $8.99 monthly subscription on its own, YouTube Premium Lite offers ad-free playback, downloads, and background play for most videos. I haven’t given into paying for YouTube Premium, because I’d rather watch a few ads than add another subscription to my bills. Now, I don’t have to.

Let’s review it all together. For just $20 per month, Google AI Pro includes 5TB of cloud storage, plus access to Google Health Premium, Google Home Premium, and YouTube Premium Lite. Purchased separately, those three add-ons would cost nearly $30 per month on their own. Together, you get everything for less than that, plus Gemini and Workspace extras.

It really is an incredible deal for anyone in the Google ecosystem, and I love that everything is cross-platform. I can use every one of these perks and subscriptions on iOS, Android, macOS, or Windows. Unlike locked-down subscriptions such as Apple One, the Google AI Pro plan works on all your devices. That’s what makes it the best subscription I pay for, and I’m not leaving anytime soon.
