Today’s Memorial Day sales offer plenty of discounts on mattresses, but sometimes the most cost-effective way to upgrade your sleep space is by investing in a good mattress topper. For instance, the Nectar Mattress Topper, now $199 for a queen at Nectar, is designed with the same cushioning memory foam and cooling tech as the brand’s mattresses — but for over $400 cheaper.

This bed topper comes from Nectar, the bed-in-a-box brand behind some of the best mattresses on the market. The Nectar Mattress Topper is infused with cooling gel and comes in two comfort levels. Our main tester for the Nectar Mattress Topper loved the soft version for side sleeping, and the firm version for back sleeping.

Today’s Memorial Day mattress sales are one of the best times to invest in a mattress topper, as sleep brands tend to raise their MSRPs in the summer. Plus, much of the US is bracing for another very hot summer. The Nectar Mattress Topper’s cooling fibers will help you sleep comfortably throughout those much warmer months.

Why back and side sleepers will love the Nectar Mattress Topper

As mentioned above, the Nectar Mattress Topper comes in two firmness options. In our Nectar Mattress Topper review, we tested both the softer version and the firmer version. Most of our top picks in our best mattress topper guide are memory foam and provide a plush layer for side sleepers, but very rarely are they firm enough for back sleeping.

However, the firmer version of the Nectar Mattress Topper proved different, with our lead tester noting that it provided great support whenever she slept on her back. Meanwhile, the soft version exhibited excellent cushioning for side sleeping.

As for temperature regulation, the “cooling fibers” in the cover and cooling gel-infused foam impressed our lead tester. She noted that most sleepers will “stay cool and comfortable throughout the night” with this topper. However, she did note that chronic hot sleepers will need to look at one of the best cooling mattresses for advanced temperature control.

The Nectar Mattress Topper’s cover isn’t removable or washable and has no anchor straps, but it does have an anti-slip base, which our tester said did a great job of keeping the topper in place.

Unfortunately, neither is firm enough for stomach sleepers, but side sleepers and back sleepers should enjoy the body-cradling pressure relief of the foam.

Want a mattress topper for even less?

The Lucid Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper is a great choice if you’re a side sleeper who wants the plushness of the soft Nectar Mattress Topper, but doesn’t want to spend over $100.

Like the Nectar, the Lucid mattress topper is infused with gel, but it also relies on perforated foam for enhanced breathability and pressure relief. It comes in three heights options (2, 3, or 4 inches).

In our Lucid Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper review, we loved how squidgy-soft the memory foam was for side sleeping, but stomach and back sleepers will likely find it too plush.
